To begin with a small introduction: Aham Bhumika is an NGO based in Bhopal . The members of Aham Bhumika work in government / private sector to support their own family and besides this we have the
endeavor of Aham Bhumika. We work in two villages adjacent to each other and are located
in the outskirts of Bhopal. Our main centre is in village Borda located on Kolar Road, Bhopal.
We have a rural pre-school of 30+ children in the said village. Besides this we have week end classes
for 60 + children on every Saturday and Sunday in the village based centre . There is another group of
younger children who are being taught ” Gond Art ” a tribal art from of central India during
every Saturday and Sunday in the same village .
Hand Embroidery initiative : An effort to empower rural women financially While working in
the villages with the children and undertaking art and craft activity we find that the most
of the women of the villages remains ideal most of the time after doing household chores
and though they want to enroll their children in good schools they don’t have financial capabilities.
Even to meet out their basic needs they have to depend upon their husband who does not have stable
earning as their husband works as daily wage labourer or doing petty works. To make them financially reliant we though to train them in some skill so that they could earn by working from home during their flexible hours.
We took up the hand embroidery initiative from the month of November 2013.We started from scratch. A group of 25 + women and younger girls of the village was taught the basics of hand embroidery for 2 months and than they were further trained by the artisans of Gujrat. From the month of November 2014 we started making efforts of selling hand embroidered products mainly cushion covers and later on sling bags.Recently we have added wall hanging hand embroidered and hand appliqued and Aprons.Further we are going to add table runners in our product category.
But selling products is still a very tough task for us as our main channel to sell is Twitter and Facebook.
Besides embroidery we are also making effort to train few women in machine stitching work and enable them to make self reliant. At the moment we are arranging fund from our own pocket for the hand embroidery initiative. To keep it continue and alongside making all efforts for their sale.
We are also making effort to be get noticed by some corporates so that we could sell our products to be used by them as corporate gifts. Aham Bhumika is a small NGO registered under societies act and last year we have also got the status of tax exemption under Section 80-G of Income tax Act .
The sample pics of the kind of work they do are attached…
Hope you would have got a rough idea of things they do and sell..
Kindly help them in the small way you can!! your small contribution might bring a great change in their way of life!! Thanks everyone for the support… For purchase of above products, kindly mail to email@example.com!! Thank you 🙂
