Away n Returned Back…

When you are away on a trip n returned back to ur place, the soothing lunch one would yearn to have is either of the combo… 1. Vatha kuzhambu n suttapalam 2. ladies finger subji n killi thalichu kotina rasam(My mom’s spl)

In those days, if we go for a trip n come back, the immediate food would be this rasam only n suttapalam..Would taste heavenly… such an easy one.. Very easy to cook..

Today my menu was the latter one.. ladies finger n rasam…i cooked in earthern pot today..

Killi thalichu kotina rasam

Ingredients:

Oil-2tbsp Mustard-1/2 tsp Toor dal-1tbsp. chana dal-1 tbsp. 1 or 2 red chillies(as per ur taste) few curry n coriander leaves, Tamarind water – 1 cup. Salt- to taste

Method:

1.Take a kadai, add oil-after it gets heated, add mustard.. after spluttering, add a red chilly , curry leaves toor n chana dal.

2. After sauteing for a minute add tamarind water then add tamarind water n salt.

3. Let it boil for 10 mins till the raw smell of tamarind goes.

4. Garnish it with curry n coriander leaves..

5. Ready to serve..

Ragi cut biscuits

Original recipe: Arokiya samayal by krishnakumari in jaya tv programme…

These biscuits would be a preferable one from kids to adults… easy to make too….It can be a perfect teatime snack too….

Items needed:

Ragi flour-1 cup

Oats flour/kambu, varagu or any millet flour-1/4 cup

Aata(Wheat flour)-1/4 cup( a must one)

Salt-to taste

for spicyness-add pepper jeera podi as per taste buds

add-1 table spoon butter.

Oil- to fry

Method:

Mix all the above said ingredients and make as a neat dough.Meanwhile, in a kadai pour the reqd qty of oil… As u make chapati, take small balls from dough, flatten it and cut with a knife for the desired shapes…Then, take the cut pieces and put it in the oil.. after both sides gets boiled in a proper way, take out n get ready to eat the snack…

Relish n enjoy!! Tasted yum….

PS: Do not keep the dough aside for hrs since it might absorb oil a lot… prepare n try this immediately.

Ingredients:

Moong dal -2 tumblers
Nattu sakkarai (natural unrefined cane sugar)- 1/2 tumbler
Hot melted Ghee – 5-6 tblsp
Cardamom powder -1/4 tsp

Method:

  • Just dry roast the moong dal till the aroma comes…
  • Switch off n let it cool…
  • Then grind it in the mixer.
  • Then add it to a big bowl. Add sugar n cardamom powder.

Finally start adding ghee to the mixture.. When you are able
to make laddus from it stop adding ghee at that juncture.

Yields around 10-15 laddus..

Since its a kids snack added much of ghee than sugar.
result was yum… A perfect yum kid snack!!!

Eggless chocolate flav.Pressure cooker cake:

Tried this cooker cake after a long time… For the little bit of interests in cakes which i have, these things acts as a energy booster once in a while.. Felt happy with the outcome… A long way to go in making cakes!!!

Steamed the mixture for 40 mins in the cooker. Then added toppings with the help of a tea filter and then added sprinklers to it!!!

Main Course:

Small Millets Bisibela Bath:

Small millets comprises of Thinai, Samai, kuthiraivali, thoordal, pasiparupu, chiili powder, asafoetida n salt.

Yesterday, accidentally got a  small millets bisibela bath mix of small qty. Just tried it out.. For 1 cup of this mix, poured 4 tumblers of water!!

Did sambar n boiled millets separately and then mixed it well.. Turned out yum!!

For making sambar, added veggies like beans, carrot, peas, potato, avarakkai n radish!! Side dish was vadams.. Outcome was great!!!

i did arachuvita sambar….For grinding, u need to season it with mustard, one redchilli, 1 tbsp of chana dal, urad dal n dhaniya!!! while grinding, need to add few coconut pieces..

Sambar making procedure:

Take a tbsp of oil n season it with mustard, then add shallots, after it is half cooked, add tomato n all other veggies said above… let it get cooked for few mins.. Then add required tamarind water, sambar podi n salt.. after 10-15 mins add toordhal mixed with above grinded paste..mix it well. then sprinkle asafoetida powder n garnish it with curry n coriander leaves…. Sambar is ready to serve!!

Ilaneer Payasam

Ingredients:

1.Tender Coconut Water – 2 cups

2.Tender coconut pulp (vazhuval) – 1 cup

3.Sweetened Condensed Milk – According to your taste buds 4-5 tbsp

4.Coconut Milk – 1 cup

5. Cashewnuts (optional) – a few

Method:
1.Grind the tender coconut pulp coarsely (let a few bits remain). Don’t make it into a smooth paste.
2.Transfer it into a wide mouth bowl.

3.Add the tender coconut water, condensed milk and coconut milk.

4.Mix well and refrigerate.
5.Garnish with fried cashewnuts (optional).
6.Serve chilled.

I did not use cashewnuts. Used it for decoration purpose…

Tasted yummmy…. For the scorching heat, it is a fitting recipe!!! Thanks to dhanyam organic store for giving such a recipe!!! Without refrigerating itself, it tasted yum 🙂 can say it as a kid’s friendly recipe too….

Kids snack time

Trying out a kid’s snack for the first time… It’s a health mix laddu..  Tried in a small qty..

Ingredients Needed:

Manna Health mix-100 gms

Cashewnuts -7 pieces

Almonds – 7 pieces

Melted Ghee

Method:

  1. Add cashewnuts, badams in a mixer so that it crushes to pieces..
  2. Then, mix the health mix powder with the crushed nuts pieces.
  3. Finally, add melted ghee to the mix.Keep adding ghee till you get hold of it to make a shape.
  4. Can add some sugar to suit the kids taste..

Home Made Sambar Powder

This recipe for me was the need of the hour. I do not mind posting it first eventhough after a long break am into writing recipes. I came across few variations in preparing this. Also, this is the firstever time am trying this recipe myself at home!! Here comes my variation of ingredients….

Ingredients:
1/4 kg -Red chillies Long or stout ones
1/2 kg – dhaniya(coriander seeds)
1 big spoon-thuvaram paruppu(toor dal), kadalai paruppu(chana dal)
1 tsp- urad dal
50 grm – milagu(black whole pepper)
100gm-Turmeric Stalks (Virali Manjal)
The above said items can be made dried under sun for few long hrs and can be ground it in a flour mill
Else
we can dry roast all the above items except turmeric and then can be grinded in a mixie.

Sambar Powder

We can use this easily for 3-4 months for 2 members on a daily basis!!!
